East Coast-Meets-West Coast Home
-
The best of both worlds, this East Coast-Meets-West Coast Massachusetts home truly blends regional sensibilities, English country charm with California airiness, to create stylish-yet-practical spaces that pay homage to our clients’ heritage as well as personal proclivities.
More often than not the primary bathroom serves as a relaxing refuge for parents to enjoy some downtime away from family duties. The clients chose a favorite vacation destination as interior inspiration, The Rectory Hotel in Cotswold, England. Mining the layered colors and textures found in Georgian manors dotting the UK countryside, the traditional look is made modern through statement prints, trending shades, and whimsical flourishes to captivate the eye.
At first glance, the tonal bathroom is serene but one can’t help but be drawn to a splash of Pimpernel wallpaper by Morris & Co. regaling the sink area with an intricate floral print. Playing off the wallpaper, a soothing-yet-standout green-gray paint, Sycamore Stand by Dunn Edwards, creates a soft, colorblocked effect on the walls, door, and window trim for visual interest that’s not overwhelming. The sink area is further elevated with white macaubus quartzite countertops featuring an ogee profile, arched backsplash and side splashes as a formal nod to English decor. Double walnut medicine cabinets from Restoration Hardware provide storage with a traditional appeal while white plaster flower sconces add fresh flair. The white oak cabinet received a white stain to neutralize it, matching back to the calming palette. Polished nickel finishings and hardware from Emtech shine with much needed gleam.
The shower proves to be understated-chic, walled in by Bedrosians Cloe tile in a variety of white and grays with a geometric herringbone marble floor tying back to the tonalities in a contrast pattern. The entire space is anchored in dark gray slate tiles for a grounded look and polished off with a fine woven Turkish rug by Bente Vintage. Mr. and Mrs. walnut milking stools by Fallen Timbers Workshop, harkening back to rustic functionality, are a handy spot to drop things and give access to hard-to-reach places.
Finishing off the Cotswold theme, both the nook and toilet area are defined by an accent of Pimpernel wallpaper to tie in the whole space. I opted for custom artwork featuring a Rorschach-inspired print triptych framed in brass for a modern, mixed-metal effect. Additional brass accessories, a mini lamp, and woven baskets add both a bit of fun, texture, and tasteful storage.

The Northeast is renowned for its beautiful wooded scenery and this Bostonian location is no exception. With roots both in California and Massachusetts, our clients once again blended the best of both worlds in an open kitchen that literally brings the outdoors in with its wall-to-wall windows. Taking a cue from the west coast, a light and bright space makes the heart of the home feel like a breath of fresh air while putting the resplendent east coast backyard greenery at center stage.
Light wood tones, oak floors, effusive use of white, and natural sunlight create a minimalist, almost Scandinavian vibe. The cabinets by Kith Kitchens provide ample storage with glass doors to showcase tableware and wooden serving dishes that equally add to the color palette as they are everyday items—a clever use of double-duty decor. Gold hardware pops for a touch of luxe against the monochrome look. Adding depth and richness, the Viatara Minuet quartz countertops in alabaster with gray marbling provides a strong workable surface while elevating the entire space. A porcelain subway tile backsplash with fine grout lines for on-trend graphic dimension contrast the walls painted in Benjamin Moore classic gray, a forever favorite, for a contemporary twist.
Finishing off the space with warmth and texture, the kitchen is accessorized with stylish-yet-usable tools like an antique pepper grinder and wooden cutting boards, while an antique Caucasian runner adds a bit of patina. A circular oak table and Nordic-inspired white chairs creates a cozy eat-in kitchen in the corner. Above the gathering space, a landscape oil painting by Green Barn Studio catches one’s eye and welcomes the viewer just beyond into the leafy wonder.
