Springdale Townhouse

  • White and welcoming with an elegant pastoral appeal, this client’s townhouse received a complete renovation to modernize the interior while creating a familial sensibility. We started by picking the color palette based off art pieces sourced from her family’s art gallery in North Carolina as well as a large-scale Aileen Fitzgerald watercolor painting for the dining area. The crux of the furnishings plays on the contrast of mixing new linen upholstery for a clean, comfortable ambiance with vintage pieces to bring in visually interesting forms. Whitewashed, wide-plank oak flooring throughout is the perfect setting to create the subtle contrast of soft materials paired with bolder shapes. The fireplace, as a focal point, received a neutral limestone subway tiling topped off with a custom-made reclaimed wood mantle for a lived-in, rustic look. An oversized Turkish pottery piece from local home decor shop, Apostrophe, additionally warms up the space. I updated all the light fixtures using Visual Comfort and Hudson Valley Lighting that play on the idea of chic, streamlined country living. Bringing in relaxed pops of bucolic color, dried florals, vintage vases, and custom Mulberry pillows layer in muted shades to add dimension to the room.

  • For the kitchen, as it was a narrow area, I opened it up by sticking to a predominantly white palette for the shaker cabinets and Calcutta quartz countertops. I created a feminine texture for the walls with undulated white subway tiles that tie into the beautiful semi-circle counter for much needed curve appeal in the linear space. For finishings, I custom-made French linen window treatments and added bleached wovens for that clean and modern, yet softly rustic concept weaving in from the living room.

  • The bathrooms follow the same creative intention as the kitchen for a strong, cohesive concept. Small but sensorial, the primary bathroom received the same undulated white subway tiles for feminine softness while the ceramic floral-patterned floor tiles on the shower pan underscore that idea. I then color matched the vanity to complete the look. For the guest bathroom, I chose a vintage rug and pulled out muted, neutral shades that I color matched to the vanity and walls. The muted neutrals complement the secondary color story of the townhouse while adding a contrast to the white theme of the other rooms. To soften everything up, the client and I created a custom ripple shower curtain that brings in a fine, femininity while retaining needed structure from Kravets performance fabric line.m description

  • A cozy retreat, the primary bedroom glorifies the fabric and texture theme I created for the living area. Plush yet down-to-earth, I mixed a Hail Mercantile neutral, natural linens with Mulberry pillows that bring in the muted, bucolic pastoral scene. The nightstands bookend the bed in a matching, soothing sage green sampled from the pillows. Lastly, a Loloi rug rounds out the room and anchors the space with a well-worn, familial appeal that ups the comfort factor for feeling truly at home and at peace.ription
